SPEAKERS & GUESTS

Roy Stabler

I currently serve as Head Coach/Director of Football at Southwest Florida Christian Academy. I have coached in FHSAA for over 15 years.

I am an Alabama native who played college football at the University of Southern Mississippi where I earned 2nd team All-American honors. After college I started playing Indoor football for the Favre Family in the NIFL/IPFL, ultimately winning Conference and Arena Championships. In 2001 I transitioned to the AF2 as a defensive specialist. I became a member of the Florida Firecats in 2002 helping the team win the American Conference while earning All AF2 1st team honors. The next year I was dubbed “Mr. 300” for becoming the first AF2 player with 300 tackles. I also earned 1st Team honors and was signed to the AF1 Orlando Predators for the 2004 season. After being released due to injuries, I returned to the Firecats to earn All AF2 2nd Team honors in addition to winning the Arena Cup. I completed my arena days as Assistant HC/Defensive Coordinator for the Orlando Predators.

I have been a teacher for 13 years and I am passionate about impacting the lives of youth through sports.

Patricia M. DeVost, LCSW

Patty DeVost, Founder & CEO of Patty’s Place Concierge Youth Mental Health Care is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker of twenty-five years. Starting out in New York she has evolved as an expert clinician through her work as an early intervention specialist, residential and foster-care placement counselor, forensic court evaluator, crisis clinician, youth mental health programs consultant, private practitioner, family mediator, and school social worker. Now in Florida, Patty worked in education as a school counselor providing emotional intelligence programming for both students and staff, knowing these skills help to promote positive mental health and relationships. She has expertise in helping young women and men develop their individual character and grow their social and emotional strengths. Throughout her diverse career, Patty has been a constant innovator of advocating for and meeting the needs of her clientele in alignment with the current times.  The inspiration and advocacy she practices and outcomes accomplished in these areas are changing lives and minds and about how to reach people in need. She founded Patty’s Place with a belief that while traditional therapy and behavioral health services provide critical support, that “a one size fits all approach”, does not work and that easily accessible, timely, and innovative approaches to overall wellness for youth and families is a missing piece of the puzzle. Patty loves Southwest Florida and in her free time enjoys spending time in nature and with family and friends. To best describe her, and like her favorite quote, she is the change you want to see in the world. She plans to leave a solid footprint for others to follow when it comes to disrupting and changing how we think about and approach youth mental health care.

Mike Carey

Mike Carey. Performance Enhancement/ Speed and Agility Specialist at HEAT Training Facility. I am the owner/founder of MIKE CAREY FIT who has a paired passion much like the owners of HEAT and have joined forces to build the all-around elite athlete. I bring a detailed approach to training quick start and explosive movements that translate to hockey players powerful, first three strides.

Speed/quickness involve learning the proper front side/running mechanic. It is a key component; a NEED, a MUST! Teaching the proper way to run, connecting the upper and lower body movement can change an athlete’s entire game. Understanding the first steps of acceleration can separate you from the rest of your competition. Proper training is game changing and will set you apart.

Learning quick change in direction can help you beat opponents to the puck.

Building the skills needed to create that quickness, engaging fast twitch muscles will help athletes react quicker than their opponent. This is not an overnight process. It takes hard work/dedication/discipline and being coachable to achieve these skills overtime.

Speed/quickness is achieved when properly paired with a detailed strength program. Building power behind the speed is essential to produce force. Force causes body to accelerate and change its velocity at a constant rate.

And lastly I teach the importance of proper mobility to ensure the longevity of the athlete. It all starts from the ground up. Lack of ankle/hip mobility can limit the athlete’s full potential on producing that force used to generate acceleration/speed.  At HEAT one of our main focuses is educating and training our athletes to incorporate this important tool into their training. With acceleration comes the importance of learning to decelerate. Get better every day. As an athlete. As a human.
