Q: Tell us about your college career and what the recruiting/scouting process was like. Why did you choose West Chester University?

A: My recruiting process was short and concise. I always had an interest in West Chester University, and the scouts expressed interest in me as well. They told me I had a spot waiting for me once I finished prep school,  and that’s exactly what happened. Once entering West Chester and stepping foot on the field, it felt like home. Both coaches and teammates were a great fit, and it showed when we played.

 

Q: What would you consider to be your biggest accomplishment in your sports career so far?

A: That would be the day our team was able to win a PSAC championship in 2018. One of the most memorable days in life.

 

Q: What do you consider to be one of the more important things you learned from the coaching staff while playing at West Chester University.

A: I learned the importance of teamwork and sacrifices for a win. Football is a special sport. Yes, it takes individual talent, but the wins won’t happen until that talent can cross over when in a team. Our coaches taught us that it’s not about making sure you have the best number or best highlights its working together as a team to make sure we get a win.

 

Q: What was your major and what are your plans if football doesn’t work out?

A: My major was interdisciplinary studies. I chose this major because I wanted to learn a little about everything that goes on in the world. I learned about psychology, business, management, and healthy habits. This major is going to be helpful because if football doesn’t work out, I would like to help struggling children in urban areas. I want to do this by starting after school/summer camps. These children would have the opportunity to play sports, get counseling, explore the arts, and explore healthy alternatives for dealing with their troubles.

Q: What would your current/past teammates say about you and your qualities?

A: One thing I’ve heard from most of my teammates is that I’m so cool and calm until I hit the field. It’s like as witch comes on and I’m “Hitman Burney”.

 

Q: What has been one of the most memorable plays of your career at any level?

A: This would be the year 2018, West Chester against Millersville university. It was the second half… Millersville came out in a trips formation which they had done in the first half. Me and the other safety made eye contact and smirked because we knew they would be trying a play they made previously, so when they hiked the ball, I jumped the play and made a big hit! This gave the other safety the opportunity to intercept the ball and run it for a touchdown.

 

Q: What has been your biggest challenge and how do you manage it?

A: My biggest challenge has been losing both my parents recently. As for how I manage it, I’m still figuring that out. What has been helping me is working out, meditating, and focusing on my goals. Every day is different, but with God, I believe I can overcome the worst of obstacles.

Q: Who was the best player you played against during your collegiate career?

A: Shepherd University’s quarterback, Tyson Bagent.

 

Q: If you could compare yourself to a pro athlete, who would that be and why?

A: I would compare myself to Cam Chancellor in his prime. He was a force on defense with his powerful hits.  Just his stance and body positioning would intimidate to his opponents. When he walked on the field you could see his passion and love of the game. It was undeniable with each play.

 

Q: What is your biggest strength that you bring to a professional team and why should pro scouts consider you?

A: My biggest strength are my hits! My tackles are thought out, calculated, and executed carefully. I’m not scared to come down and play in the box with bigger opponents, but I also have the recovery speed to play against smaller opponents when playing over top.

 

Q: Are you involved in mentoring, a charity or do you “give back” or ”pay it forward” in your community?

A: Yes, I am. This is one of my passions, I’ve been given unforeseeable opportunities and I owe it to myself to give back as much as I can. I’m involved in a mentorship called “Kings introduction into leadership”. This organization teaches the youth about nonviolence, assistance available to them, and healthy habits. I am also involved in “Coaches who care” this is a pay it forward organization that helps the youth keep busy with productive activities/sports. Both organizations give back multiples times a year; supplying youth with clothing, food, toys and just a friendly face to talk to.

 

Q: What do you enjoy doing when not playing football?

A: Spending time with my family and working out.

 

Q: If you could make a positive impact on all of society what would it be and why?

A: I would like to influence the youth to stay away from bad choices. There are so many children losing their futures over one bad mistake. This is partly one of the reasons I would like to make it pro. I think having someone of influence reach out to the community could help a lot. The youth put a lot of faith behind athletes,vso I would use my influence and optimistic attitude to help make a difference. Even if I don’t make it pro, I will continue live life every day as a positive person who helps whenever I can. Little things always add up.

 

Q: Who is or has been the most influential person in your life?

A: My mom. She is very brave and taught me to always push forward.

 

Q: What is something unique about you that people would find interesting?

A: I’m pretty much a shape shifter. I can gain or dope muscle/weight at an incredible pace. My body is very adaptable.

 

Q: If you had the opportunity to play another sport professionally, what sport would you choose?

A: Basketball.

 

Q: What is your dream job?

A: My dream to play in the NFL.

Pursuing a career in professional football from a small school is a lonely path. A prospect may have the support of his peers, family, and teammates, but the process can be overwhelming and very confusing. Often times small school prospects don’t have access to the resources provided to prospects at football powerhouses. “How can I get myself in front of scouts? How can I prove to them that I can play at the next level?” These are only a few of the many questions that race through a potential prospects mind on a daily basis. The Beyond Sports Network National Combine helped simplify this process for many of the players that attended, including myself. Despite the combine being held for a few days, the information and services provided by the combine, as well as the sense of community between the staff members and prospects stood out to me. Every test that would be performed at the NFL combine was covered, every coach and staff member supported each prospect to an unbelievable extent, and the amount of scouts and agents in attendance and how interactive they were was impressive. The Beyond Sports Network National Scouting Combine was a critical step in attempting to take my talents to the next level. If you are a small school prospect with no clear path to the next level, the National Scouting Combine will certainly clear up the path for you.

BSN gave me the platform I needed to be respected as a athlete. I came to there first Combine in 2010. I was pulled by every NFL, CFL scout. At that time there were a couple really good WRs including a SEC top WR who NFL scouts were coming to see. Once I put up good #s in my Testing Drills, we did one on ones. I showed my great covering skills to the point all the scouts herd the WRs talking and asking who was this guy. Then BSN promoted me and my numbers and I received workouts on all levels. I became a name in the business. Having legit numbers and respectable organization backing you is what you need. Everyone can say they can play and perform but coaches and scouts don’t believe you. BSN gives you the stage to perform and prove them wrong and get the opportunity you deserve. Because of BSN I was able to create a long professional career and when needed comeback to prove I could still play at a high level.
