Q: How did you come to start Gaudiosi Law and your Spots representation division? What was your motivation?

A: Gaudiosi Law is a bankruptcy law firm in Glendale, Arizona. I started this firm in 2015. Through another business dealing, I met AC Caswell. We started talking about his former professional football days with the Raiders and his Future Pro Sports Marketing business. I have loved football since I was a child, although I am not an athlete, I have always been a huge sports fan. AC was telling me about how his marketing company never had an agent to make his company a true sports management agency. He asked if I would be interested in taking his business to the next level by becoming a sports agent. This would be a dream job for me and one I never thought I would have an opportunity to become a part of, so I immediately started the process of becoming an agent. My motivation is to help athletes achieve everything they want without worry of being taken advantage of. I’ve seen too many athletes lose everything because they were talked into bad investments, bad advice, and bad management. I want to make sure that doesn’t happen to any of my athletes. My partner AC wants to give athletes a better opportunity at marketing and owning their own brand as too many athletes have been held under the thumb of bad marketing contracts where the athlete is used and abused by corporate America. We want that to stop.

Q: What would you consider to be your biggest accomplishment in your sports career?

A: We are a new agency in our first year, so few big accomplishments so far. My biggest is probably the fact that I passed the NFLPA exam and got my certification. Getting a player signed to a contract with an NFL team would be the next big goal. 

Q: What do you consider to be one of the more important things you learned during your career?

A: I still have so much to learn about this business, and I learn something new every day. Most importantly, I have learned that this business requires strong relationships with many people to get a player to a signed contract with an NFL team. It is so much more than just an agent negotiating a contract. I didn’t realize how much more it is, but I am learning more and more every day. 

Q: What has been your biggest challenge and how do you manage it?

A: My biggest challenge right now is time management. I run three businesses and finding time to balance what I need to get done for all three is challenging. 

If I could help athletes succeed off the field as well on it and that success turns into a foundation or philanthropic cause that helps others, that would be a success for me. We have our own charity events that we host as an agency, but making that happen for our athletes as well is very important to me. 

Q: What qualities do you look for when scouting athletes for representation?

A: We like to look at several factors. It’s not all about what they can do on the field but also what kind of person they are. We like to make sure the player is skillful at his or her position, but also a good person. We look at many factors in the player’s history, school, grades, injuries, skill level, combine numbers, pro-day, etc. 

Q: How can athletes learn more or get on your radar?

A: So many athletes these days are on social media. I’m working with a social media expert to enhance my Instagram page and get new followers. I’m also on Linkedin, Facebook and Twitter. We also have a website at futureprosportsmanagement.com. 

Q: What can athletes do to prepare for opportunities at the next level?

A: Depends on a lot of factors. What school are they coming from, are they projected to be drafted, what skill level are they at? A lot of training for the combine whether it’s the NFL combine, or the National Scouting Combine is needed. Some athletes might need specific position training. A player’s draft stock goes up or down just on that one day at a combine or pro-day. Athletes need to be overly prepared for that experience. 

Q: How important is an athlete’s background and do you look for anything specific?

A: It is very important. We always want to know what’s in an athlete’s background. We look for any legal or criminal troubles, history with family abuse, alcohol or drug abuse, transfers between schools and why, relationships with coaches and other athletes, is the athlete a team player or a diva, and anything else we can find out. 

 

Q: Who is the perfect candidate that will succeed with your help?

A: We look for athletes that are motivated to succeed and have a stake in their own cause. Many athletes that we talk to want an agency that’s not only going to represent them, but also pave their way by providing money and training. As a new agency, we just don’t have many of those benefits to offer. We have expert advice from former professional athletes that have been through their shoes and know what this is about and how to make it. We have relationships that are already in place and expanding into more and more people throughout all sports that are available to help. We’re looking for an athlete who’s not simply looking for a handout but one who wants to build a relationship with us and join our family. 

Q: If you could make a positive impact on all of society what would it be and why?

A: If I could help athletes succeed off the field as well on it and that success turns into a foundation or philanthropic cause that helps others, that would be a success for me. Q: Who is or has been the most influential person in your life?

A: There’s been many, but I’d have to go with my father. He had so many problems in life being a Vietnam veteran with PTSD but he managed to have a 30-year career with the postal service. No matter what, he got up every day and made it to work. This instilled a work ethic in me and a desire to succeed at all costs that many people do not have.

Q: What is something unique about your sport or organization that people would find fascinating?

A: When I was starting to learn this business and talking with AC, he showed me the number of former professional athletes that we have to help and endorse this business. Other than me being a lawyer, this organization is run and supported by former professional athletes from all over. It’s amazing walking into this business and meeting and learning about all of the former athletes that want to be a part of our agency and help us succeed.

Pursuing a career in professional football from a small school is a lonely path. A prospect may have the support of his peers, family, and teammates, but the process can be overwhelming and very confusing. Often times small school prospects don’t have access to the resources provided to prospects at football powerhouses. “How can I get myself in front of scouts? How can I prove to them that I can play at the next level?” These are only a few of the many questions that race through a potential prospects mind on a daily basis. The Beyond Sports Network National Combine helped simplify this process for many of the players that attended, including myself. Despite the combine being held for a few days, the information and services provided by the combine, as well as the sense of community between the staff members and prospects stood out to me. Every test that would be performed at the NFL combine was covered, every coach and staff member supported each prospect to an unbelievable extent, and the amount of scouts and agents in attendance and how interactive they were was impressive. The Beyond Sports Network National Scouting Combine was a critical step in attempting to take my talents to the next level. If you are a small school prospect with no clear path to the next level, the National Scouting Combine will certainly clear up the path for you.

BSN gave me the platform I needed to be respected as a athlete. I came to there first Combine in 2010. I was pulled by every NFL, CFL scout. At that time there were a couple really good WRs including a SEC top WR who NFL scouts were coming to see. Once I put up good #s in my Testing Drills, we did one on ones. I showed my great covering skills to the point all the scouts herd the WRs talking and asking who was this guy. Then BSN promoted me and my numbers and I received workouts on all levels. I became a name in the business. Having legit numbers and respectable organization backing you is what you need. Everyone can say they can play and perform but coaches and scouts don’t believe you. BSN gives you the stage to perform and prove them wrong and get the opportunity you deserve. Because of BSN I was able to create a long professional career and when needed comeback to prove I could still play at a high level.
