Alex Jreige | James Madison High School | RB | 2022

Q: Tell us about your high school career and what the recruiting process has been like thus far.

A: High school has been an amazing experience for me so far. I’ve been on varsity since freshman year and the coaches and upper classmen have treated me like a little brother. As far as recruiting goes, I haven’t really done much other than playing 7 on 7 with the Virginia Spartans.

Q: What would you consider to be your biggest accomplishment in your sports career so far?

A: Being an all-district and all-region running back as a sophomore and my first year starting.

Q: What do you consider to be one of the more important things you learned from the coaching staff while playing at your school?

A: Staying square to the line of scrimmage and being patient for the hole to open.

Q: What have you learned during this unique time in 2020? What did you focus on or accomplish during Quarantine?

A: Just getting stronger and quicker. I’ve been lifting a lot and been doing football specific training.

Q: If you could play in college, what would you choose to major in? What are your plans if football doesn’t work out?

A: I would like to major in political science and try to get a job on Capitol Hill.

Q: What would your current teammates say about you and your qualities?

A:  They would say that I’m a very positive teammate no matter what the circumstances were. We could be losing by 100 and I would still be encouraging people to do their best.

Q: What has been one of the most memorable plays of your career so far?

A: The most memorable play for me was when I hurdled someone on Patriot in a play off game. I remember the play exactly. The play before one of the O-linemen went offsides on the 1-yard line. The very next play I got a 28 toss and there was one corner there and I just jumped right over him. I got a 15-yard penalty for jumping over him, but it was worth it in my opinion.

Q: What has been your biggest challenge and how do you manage it?

A: My biggest challenge has been my speed. I manage it by being well conditioned and being able to have 25+ carries a game.

Q: If you could compare yourself to a collegiate or pro athlete, who would that be and why?

A: I would say Le’veon Bell. I resemble his game a lot in my opinion because of how patient I am when I get the ball. I’m a great receiving back as well. I think that neither of us have killer speed but are above average in every other category.

Q: What is your biggest strength and why should college coaches & scouts consider you?

A: My biggest strength is my ability to read holes and make quick jump cuts. I have great acceleration and I’m able to burst and go from stopped to full speed very fast. My vision, durability, my ability to catch and run routes out of the backfield are all great reasons why coaches and scouts should consider me

Q: Are you involved in mentoring, a charity or do you “give back”/”pay it forward” in your community?

A: I coached a youth basketball team with my older brother. Starting next year, I’m going to be a mentor at Madison, mentoring freshman and kids that are new to the school.

Q: How are you preparing for the 2020 High School National Scouting Combine and what are your goals for the combine?

A: I’ve been preparing by running 40’s and practicing the drills we will be doing at the combine. My main goal is to run under a 4.8 40-yard dash and also to outperform other players that already have offers and get noticed by scouts and coaches.

Q: What would be your ultimate achievement?

A: My ultimate achievement would to get a scholarship to a power-5 school and be able to play and have a chance to play in the NFL.

Q: What do you enjoy doing when not playing football? Do you play other sports?

A: I’ve just always enjoyd the environment ever since I’ve started playing when I was a kid. I love playing and putting on a show in front of hundreds of people. I played football basketball and baseball every year since I was in grade school until this past year when I only played football and ran track.

Q: Who is or has been the most influential person in your life?

A: It has been my older brother. He has always had the most confidence in me ever since I started playing. He would always be the first person to congratulate me on my achievements and the first person to pick me up after my mistakes.

Q: What is something unique about you that people would find interesting?

A: I just finished a 720-episode long Anime series. I started watching anime this year and I have become obsessed. I would recommend everyone at least try it once. A lot of people like to judge anime watchers and call them weird, but you’ll never know if you like it if you never try it! Just give it a chance.
