DeMarcus Perry | Woodbridge Senior High School | LB | 2021

Q: Tell us about your high school career and what the recruiting process has been like thus far.

A: As far my high school career goes, I haven’t really had a chance to play my first two seasons due to back to back injuries my freshman and sophomore year. Last season, coming back I felt like I was at a good starting point, definitely could’ve done better, so we’ll see what I can do my senior year. As far as the recurring process goes I just need to get myself more exposed to the college recruitment world, start sending my film out to coaches, and hopefully I can start it from there.

Q: When did you receive your first offer and what school was it from? How many offers have you received thus far?

A: I can’t really answer that question because I don’t have any offers right now.

Q: What would you consider to be your biggest accomplishment in your sports career so far?

A: For me, I would say, coming back from my first two previously missed seasons. I made JV and I made varsity as a role player. Afterwards I worked my way up to a starting spot on varsity, and from there I went on to do good things.

Q: What do you consider to be one of the more important things you learned from the coaching staff while playing at your school?

A:Definitely commitment, I’ve seen a lot of coaches that don’t put their efforts into other players that need help developing their skills. That shows the coaches commitment to their organization, players, and program.

Q: What have you learned during this unique time in 2020? What did you focus on or accomplish during Quarantine?

A: I’ve learned that nothing is guaranteed, you can’t really take anything for granted, everything is up for grabs and really it’s all about survival of the fittest. Over quarantine I’ve been doing 20min jogs, practicing fundamentals, I’m learning a new position this year so I gotta stay on top of my A-game

Q: If you could play in college, what would you choose to major in? What are your plans if football doesn’t work out?

A: If i were to go to college and play football my major would be criminal justice, it’s something that I’ve always been interested in. If college football doesn’t work out for me I would still want to pursue a major in criminal justice.

Q: What would your current teammates say about you and your qualities?

A: I think hopefully they would say I am a leader, I think they would say I am a very positive player, a player that knows how the defense works. Kinda a role model for defensive players.

Q: What has been one of the most memorable plays of your career so far?

A: That Friday night we were playing the team that was at the top of the division during that time. Coach put me in and sent me on a blitz. I came off the edge free as well as the defensive end. We both ended up getting the sack, and after I got up I felt a rush of adrenaline, I felt as if I was on top of the world and nobody could stop me

Q: What has been your biggest challenge and how do you manage it?

A: My biggest challenge right now would be getting bigger in size. Over quarantine I haven’t been able to get into the gym as much which limits me as a player. I plan on going back to the gym on a regular basis and getting back to where I left off.

Q: If you could compare yourself to a collegiate or pro athlete, who would that be and why?

A: I feel like I would be a Kam Chancellor type of a player. I can cover a lot of the receivers that are on the field, I can be put in the box to assist with the running game, in other words a hybrid player but to be specific I think I would be more of a Kam Chancellor type player.

Q: What is your biggest strength and why should college coaches & scouts consider you?

A: My biggest strength would be in pass coverage. I can cover a lot of the running backs and receivers, I have great agility which always helps when covering certain people, lastly I can read an offense and tell you what the route concepts are gonna be just by looking at the formation.

Q: Are you involved in mentoring, a charity or do you “give back”/”pay it forward” in your community?

A: I am currently not involved in a charity nor  mentoring or “give back”/“pay it forward”. Although I do have experience with working with organizations that help and give back to the community. My freshman year I went to Gallaudet University and helped their basketball team pick up trash around Washington DC until it was time to pack it up.

Q: How are you preparing for the 2020 High School National Scouting Combine and what are your goals for the combine?

A: I am preparing by working with coaches that are willing to help me improve my times and distances by running the events themselves and  practicing proper technique. My goals for the combine is to PR in every drill that I can.

Q: What would be your ultimate achievement?

A: My ultimate achievement for this season would be to go to the state championship or make a deep playoff run. Right now Woodbridge is the underdog of our division, no one expects us to do great this season because we have a new coaching staff this season but we plan on proving them wrong

Q: What do you enjoy doing when not playing football? Do you play other sports?

A: In my free time I play a lot of madden, which helps with football, defense and offense. I also workout whenever I get the chance to just so I don’t fall behind. I play lacrosse and also run track.

Q: Who is or has been the most influential person in your life?

A: My father would be the most influential person in my life mainly because he is one to not discourage. In fact, he is a one to encourage. He would always try and push me to do my best so I can get the best possible results for myself. He also taught me not to quit. He coached at Gallaudet University for a long time which would explain where the motivation comes from.

Q: What is something unique about you that people would find interesting?

A: I’m a very humble player, I give credit where credit is due, if someone runs a good route and I get beat all I say is good route bet you can’t do it again. In the end football to me is supposed to be fun and a grind, and the grind is what makes it fun.
