Q: Tell us about your high school career and what the recruiting process has been like thus far. 

A: I was originally a runningback for my high school but halfway through the off season going into my sophomore year my head coach asked me to play quarterback. It took me a year to really learn the position and figure out the offense and by the beginning of my junior year I was the starter over a senior. The recruiting process has been a big part of my life. Every day it seems I am looking for schools to send my film and my transcript to. I am really trying to get more attention from D1 FCS schools.

 

Q: When did you receive your first offer and what school was it from? How many offers have you received thus far? 

A: I recieved my first offer last December to Shenandoah University. They are a division 3 school in Northern Virginia. Currently I have 3 offers to Shenandoah, Hampden Sydney, and Washington and Lee and I have been heavily recruited by almost all schools in the ODAC division being told by most “we would love for you to play here.” 

 

Q: What would you consider to be your biggest accomplishment in your sports career so far?

A: My biggest accomplishment in sports is definitely overcoming adversity especially in the position I am in with not have been playing quarterback since I started playing football and being able to take the starting job over a senior who has been playing that position his whole life.

 

Q: What do you consider to be one of the more important things you learned from the coaching staff while playing at your school?

A: To never stop going. My coaches have taught me that there is no time to give up and to always be the hardest working guy in the room.

 

Q: What have you learned during this unique time in 2020? What did you focus on or accomplish during Quarantine?

A: I learned that now is the time when I have to work even harder with the 2020 season being in question. I could possibly have no game film for my senior year so I post all of my quarterback workouts on twitter and am constantly direct messaging coaches videos if me making throws.

 

Q: If you could play in college, what would you choose to major in? What are your plans if football doesn’t work out?

A: I am still undecided but I would like to major in either Psychology or Chemistry and if my football plans didn’t workout I luckily have worked just as hard in the classroom my entire life so I think I would still be able to go to a good school and get a good education

 

Q: What would your current teammates say about you and your qualities?

A: I think that they would say I am the hardest worker on the team for sure. I think they would also say how I am 100% a team player and treat all of my teammates with respect. 

 

Q: What has been one of the most memorable plays of your career so far?

A: My junior year I had a lot of deep balls and a lot of long touchdown runs but one that really stands out is when we played Kellam High School and I dropped back to throw and before I knew it the pocket collapsed so I had to step up and I ended up running for a 65 yd+ touchdown.

 

Q: What has been your biggest challenge and how do you manage it?

A: Inexperience at quarterback is my biggest challenge especially since the guys I go up against have been playing the position their entire career. I manage this by getting as many game speed reps in the offseason as possible and I practice reading defenses as well.

 

Q: If you could compare yourself to a collegiate or pro athlete, who would that be and why?

A: If there was a professional athlete i’d compare myself to it would be Russel Wilson. I think I have similiar attributes that he had when he was playing high school ball.

 

Q: What is your biggest strength and why should college coaches & scouts consider you?

A: My biggest strength is my athleticism. I may not be the fastest guy on the field but I am fast enough and agile enough to be a dual threat especially with my passing game quickly catching up to my ground game. 

 

Q: Are you involved in mentoring, a charity or do you “give back”/”pay it forward” in your community?

A: Each summer I volunteer at my local church, Grace Bible Church and I help mentor elementary school aged kids and teach them a few life lessons while also having some fun. 

 

Q: How are you preparing for the 2020 High School National Scouting Combine and what are your goals for the combine?

A: I have been prepping by training every day with my speed and agility trainer Giavanni Ruffin who I have been training with since I was 6 years old. My goal is to stand out in the passing drills and also to run a 40 yard dash in the 4.6 range and get a broad jump of 112.

 

Q: What would be your ultimate achievement? 

A: To get a good college education, play football while doing it and come out knowing that I will be able to provide a good life for my family.

 

Q: What do you enjoy doing when not playing football? Do you play other sports? 

A: I enjoy going out on my friends boat into the bay to either catch fish or just take a cruise and enjoy the beautiful Virginia Beach scenery.

 

Q: Who is or has been the most influential person in your life? 

A: My dad 100%

 

Q: What is something unique about you that people would find interesting?

A: Most people are intrigued by how young I am considering my maturity. I am only 16 and will graduate high school being only 17 years old. I think I am a pretty mature young adult despite my age.

Pursuing a career in professional football from a small school is a lonely path. A prospect may have the support of his peers, family, and teammates, but the process can be overwhelming and very confusing. Often times small school prospects don’t have access to the resources provided to prospects at football powerhouses. “How can I get myself in front of scouts? How can I prove to them that I can play at the next level?” These are only a few of the many questions that race through a potential prospects mind on a daily basis. The Beyond Sports Network National Combine helped simplify this process for many of the players that attended, including myself. Despite the combine being held for a few days, the information and services provided by the combine, as well as the sense of community between the staff members and prospects stood out to me. Every test that would be performed at the NFL combine was covered, every coach and staff member supported each prospect to an unbelievable extent, and the amount of scouts and agents in attendance and how interactive they were was impressive. The Beyond Sports Network National Scouting Combine was a critical step in attempting to take my talents to the next level. If you are a small school prospect with no clear path to the next level, the National Scouting Combine will certainly clear up the path for you.

BSN gave me the platform I needed to be respected as a athlete. I came to there first Combine in 2010. I was pulled by every NFL, CFL scout. At that time there were a couple really good WRs including a SEC top WR who NFL scouts were coming to see. Once I put up good #s in my Testing Drills, we did one on ones. I showed my great covering skills to the point all the scouts herd the WRs talking and asking who was this guy. Then BSN promoted me and my numbers and I received workouts on all levels. I became a name in the business. Having legit numbers and respectable organization backing you is what you need. Everyone can say they can play and perform but coaches and scouts don’t believe you. BSN gives you the stage to perform and prove them wrong and get the opportunity you deserve. Because of BSN I was able to create a long professional career and when needed comeback to prove I could still play at a high level.
