2023 National Scouting Combine Featured Free Agent DB Tony Sanders

What gives you an advantage over other athletes at your position? Something that would give me an advantage over other athletes is that I want this more than they do! I have been to the very bottom of the sports pool (Semi pro) and I refuse togo back. I am willing to do whatever it takes to achieve my goal no matter the cost.

What does being a student of a game mean to you? A student of the game to memeans a person that isn’t just putting work on the field they are putting work in off the field as well. This person is not only looking at the good plays but is looking at the bad playsand finding out how he can make them good. They also study opponents’ films and know their opponents more than they know themselves.

How does being a linebacker reflect itself in your personal life? Being a linebacker reflects on my personal life because it takes leadership and brains tobe a linebacker. You have to be able to see things on the fly, fix others’ mistakes, pick people up when they’re down, and understand people look at you as the head of theentire machine. Life is the same way to a perfect Tee.

How would you describe your work ethic? My work ethic is unmatched. I have a nevergive up work ethic. I’m going to keep working at it until I can’t possibly lose. The best part about my work ethic is it’s very competitive and it makes others want to work hard.

What do you consider to be one of the more important things you learned from thecoaching staff? One of the more important things I have learned from my coaching staff is that, just because you are undersized doesn’t mean you can’t compete with the big dogs. Physicality, Technique, quickness, work ethic, and heart will get you very far.

What would you consider to be your biggest accomplishment in your sports careerso far? My biggest accomplishment so far in my career has to be either my SDAFLDefensive MVP (Semi pro) or getting invited to the XFL showcase in 2022.

How did you hear about the National Scouting Combine? I heard about the National Scouting Combine from a NSC Coach and former semi pro teammate of mine Anthony Prevost.

Why did you choose the National Scouting Combine? I Chose the national scoutingcombine because I feel like this event is the closest I will get to a regional combine outside of the XFL showcase. Everything about this event screams professional and I am glad to be a part of it!

What do you hope to show people at the combine? I am hoping to show people at the combine that semi professional players are still professional and can compete with any group of people. Also that a 5’8 220 pound linebacker can compete with the big boys.

What was your Major? My major was Psychology

Who is or has been the most influential person in your life? Besides the usual mother or father answer, the person that most influences me would be Denzel Washington. Just listening to his story and how he got started showed me that there is more to life even after you fail over and over again.

If not football, then what? If i didn’t have football then I would probably be a sports agent. I have an eye for talent, the gift to gab, and I can sell salt to a slug if I had to.

If you could make a positive impact on all of society what would it be and why? If I could make a positive impact on society it would be to teach people how to go for theirdreams. Why you may ask because in this world the richest place on the planet is the graveyard, because in the graveyard

you will find ideas that were never acted upon, dreams that would have changed the world and its views.

What is something unique about you that people would find interesting? Out of 4brothers I am the oldest but also the shortest. All my brothers are between 5’10 – 6’2. I am sitting here at 5’8 thank you Dad

If you had the opportunity to play another sport professionally, what sport wouldyou choose? If I had the opportunity to play another sport the sport would probably be rugby. Having a small rugby background it has a similar football feeling but safer with the tackling style.

Are you involved in mentoring, a charity or do you “give back” or ”pay it forward” in your community? I work closely with the children’s hospital year round helping with events, setting up toy drives, and working a lot in the background. I also help at Tucker high school as a big brother, father figure, counselor, and coach to a lot of the football players and their friends. It feels good being able to give guidance to the high school kids to be able to help change their lives and put them in the best position possible to live a successful life.
