Beyond Sports Network Feature: JB Walton

Talk about what has transpired since your participation in the 2016 National Scouting Combine. Did you receive a workout? Tryout? Contract? And if so, with who and where?

Well after the combine, a few months after I was contacted by a CFL team Winnipeg Blue Bombers who at the time was interested in me. I went down North Carolina to workout for them to see me in person. Now its a waiting game. Rrecently I workout for the the new AFL team in DC. Washington Valor. The coaching staff seemed very interested in me. So I’ll wait and see what happens Hopefully I get that call!

Social Media can play both a positive and negative role in athlete’s lives… what is your approach when using social media and what are your goals on a monthly basis?

For social media I try to watch want I put on there because I know if a team is interested in me they are going to do a background check and see what kind of person they are dealing with. Most of the time I put up inspirational quotes or encourage people to keep pushing. I also use it as a tool by posting my football info to NFL, CFL and AFL teams pages on a weekly basis.

How do you train to stay focused on your position and improving everything from speed to strength and technique?

Training I do different things like hit the weight room, hitting the field with drills or bike riding. I work on my foot speed a lot. Jump roping is my number one thing I do all the time after a workout. I work everything upper, lower body and also my core. Flexibility is key too it helps prevent injury. Yoga helps too.

How do you think the National Scouting Combine can be improved to help athletes get to where they want?

It can help the athletes by attending it and being able to be seen and maybe also have a interviewing process to hear some of there back story.

How serious do you take your nutrition? Do you make this a key factor in supplementing your workouts?

I try my best to watch what I eat. I do not take supplements. I like to keep it natural.

How has the National Scouting Combine affected you?

The National Scouting Combine has affected me a great deal because I have been contacted by different teams over the past months. BSN is a great platform if your very serious about getting to the next level. They can help you get seen!

Describe in detail what your diet consists of.

My diet consists of fish, salad, skinless chicken, friuts and vegetables.

Take us through a training session and what keeps you motivated on a weekly basis.

If I hit the weight room I do a 5min run on the treadmill to get a sweat going. Than once I’m done I stretch for about 8 mins than I’m ready to go. I do four to five lower body machines and do the same for upper body, usually 4 to 5 sets. Once I’m done I do 45mins of cardio, after that I do some foot work resists bands, jump roping, medicine ball. At the very I run the treadmill for about 10 mins Once I’m done I finish with a stretch and that’s it! What keeps me going is the love of the game and knowing I have a lot of playing left in me. Stay ready so you don’t have to get ready! My slogan is ((T.E.R)) Time + Effort = Results
