Q: Tell us about your college (or pro) career and what the recruiting/scouting process was like. Why did you choose Mid America Nazarene University?

A: I was recruited by a lot of division one schools out of high school; however my SAT scores did not allow me to be excepted!

Q: What would you consider to be your biggest accomplishment in your sports career so far?

A: Probably making all-conference all four years on both sides of the football! And losing over 60 pounds.

Q: What do you consider to be one of the more important things you learned from the coaching staff while playing at Mid America Nazarene?

A: I had three head coaches in college. I have learned many different things from all three of them because all of their coaching styles were different. This has allowed me to except criticism and coaching from very different coaches! It also taught me how to value them now and be patient!

Q: How was your career impacted due to the 2020 pandemic and what have you learned from the adversity?

A: due to COVID-19 we only had eight games. So that Kurt some film out for a lot of people and ultimately left seniors in a weird spot with their season. Let alone the gyms being closed! But through it all I feel like it has taught me how to value every second I get on the football field.

Q: What was your major and what are your plans if football doesn’t work out?

A: My major is sports management with a minor in coaching. My goal is to stay around the game and become a head coach for some years, and become a athletic director.

Q: What would your current/past teammates say about you and your qualities?

A: my teammates would say I am a very energetic passionate player that would die on the field for them! I also feel like they would say that I am somewhat of a prick, however they know it’s all out of love! Also, nice guys usually aren’t successful in this game.

Q: What has been one of the most memorable plays of your career at any level?

A: Probably my three or four game-winning sack! But the one for me is when I was the backside end and chased down our rivals running back about 40 yards down the field to save a game changing touchdown.

Q: What has been your biggest challenge and how do you manage it?

A: My biggest challenge is caring too much about my teammates and other people. Sometimes I get caught up in my family or teammates so much that I don’t work on myself enough. I have learned how to level this out through the years and it has helped me become a leader!

Q: If you could compare yourself to a pro athlete, who would that be and why?

A: Frank Clark! I love how he plays the game, he is an ultimate competitor. He affects every play even if he doesn’t make the tackle just by being smart and knowing where to put his body. He is not the biggest player in the league, fastest, or strongest but he always gets it done!

Q: What is your biggest strength that you bring to a professional team and why should pro scouts consider you?

A: I have a great motor and have played for different positions through my college career and received all conference at all of them. I came to college at 310 pounds as a offense of tackle. I was always pulling into positions to help the team, so my sophomore year I played OL,FB and TE! I made my jump to defense my junior year and haven’t looked back since. I also played on every special team! I am a fast learner!

Q: Are you involved in mentoring, a charity or do you “give back” or ”pay it forward” in your community?

A: Every summer I go back to Lubbock, Texas and help my high school, Estacado high school with their football camp!

Q: How are you preparing for the 2021 National Scouting Combine and what are your goals?

A: Trying every day! But ultimately to get my name out and to get signed!

Q: What would be your ultimate achievement?

A: Playing for an NFL team

Q: What do you enjoy doing when not playing football?

A: I am a general contractor, so I like building things and making money!

Q: If you could make a positive impact on all of society what would it be and why?

A: I would guide people to live by the Golden rule! “treat others the way you would like to be treated”.  Because if we can do that the world would be a great place!

Q: Who is or has been the most influential person in your life?

A: my great grandfather Jesse Johnson, He taught me the true meaning of work and how to save my money. Mostly he taught me how to be a man!

Q: What is something unique about you that people would find interesting?

A: A lot of people say I am easy to talk to. And I used to ride bulls back as a kid, so a lot of people who are that unique.

Q: What is your dream job?

A: to play in the NFL. But I would also like to become a coach at a division one or maybe even a NFL coaching job someday!
