Tabari Muhammad  | KIPP DC College Preparatory HS  | WR | 2022

Q: Tell us about your high school career and what the recruiting process has been like thus far.

A: I haven’t received any offers yet, but I’m working on grinding my way up to the top through camps and high school performances. Also, I’ve been through a lot of adversity, I’ve had a lot of ups and downs. Freshman Year: I actually quit because of a lot of unfairness and nonsense going on in the locker room with coaches and players. I came back my sophomore year and I worked very hard in the offseason and then it payed off the next year. And I am looking forward to bigger and better things my 11th grade year.

Q: When did you receive your first offer and what school was it from? How many offers have you received thus far?

A:  I have 0 offers currently. And I haven’t received any so far.

Q: What would you consider to be your biggest accomplishment in your sports career so far?

A: Making and Starting on the Varsity Squad for my last two years of high school.

Q: What do you consider to be one of the more important things you learned from the coaching staff while playing at your school?

A: One thing I’ve learned from my coach is that if you fail to plan, you plan to fail. And that stuck with me throughout my high school career.

Q: What have you learned during this unique time in 2020? What did you focus on or accomplish during Quarantine?

A: I made the Varsity Squad as a Wide receiver after my sophomore year because I was committed to what I love. And I attended workouts every day and I worked hard consistently.

Q: If you could play in college, what would you choose to major in? What are your plans if football doesn’t work out?

A: I would major in Computer Technology/ Photography.  My plans would be photography, podcasting, or probably making my own business.

Q: What would your current teammates say about you and your qualities?

A: I have major potential and I could dominate any point of a football game. But me personally, I feel like I always have something too perfect. I feel I always have something to prove because I am doubted by the majority of people.

Q: What has been one of the most memorable plays of your career so far?

A: To be honest, I feel like I’ve made more plays in practice than the game. But if I had to choose, it was my first game in my JV season in 10th grade and I was lined up at TE and I ran this zig route to catch the ball from my QB and I was wide open. I feel like I could’ve taken it for a TD, but the gap closed in quickly, but I took the reception for 20+ yards and my sideline was hype for the big play I made.

Q: What has been your biggest challenge and how do you manage it?

A: Ruining my chance to make the Varsity team my sophomore year because I ran the wrong route on a play which was crucial because I made my QB throw an interception for 6 and it didn’t end well. One of my coaches got heated and they benched me for the rest of the scrimmage.

Q: If you could compare yourself to a collegiate or pro athlete, who would that be and why?

A: To be honest , I don’t try to be anybody, I just try to be my best self because I know how capable I am to be the best I can be. But if I had to choose I would probably say Randy Moss or Calvin Johnson because I’m a 6’3 receiver who is fast , has a great release off the line, would advise corners to give cushion against me because pressing is not the best idea. I can catch the ball very well. The one thing I do need to work on is my high point because it should be an advantage of mine because it can become my best ability on the field. And for collegiate I would say Justyn Ross from Clemson.

Q: What is your biggest strength and why should college coaches & scouts consider you?

A: My biggest strength right now is beating press off the line and making an explosive play after the catch.

Q: Are you involved in mentoring, a charity or do you “give back”/”pay it forward” in your community?

A: I actually am, every Saturday I help my mother give out care packages and clothes to the homeless family because I know they really need it and I know anybody could’ve been in their shoes at any time.

Q: How are you preparing for the 2020 High School National Scouting Combine and what are your goals for the combine?

A: Doing multiple sets of pushups everyday, running up steep hills, drinking plenty of water, eating a lot of fruit, getting good sleep and conditioning with my Varsity teammates.

Q: What would be your ultimate achievement?

A: Winning A state championship and me being a huge part of it, winning awards, breaking records,  and receiving multiple offers from colleges I’d never imagine

Q: What do you enjoy doing when not playing football? Do you play other sports?

A: Yes I do, i play basketball, soccer, kickball, dodgeball. I’m a very athletic person no doubt.

Q: Who is or has been the most influential person in your life?

A: My mother and father. They have taken care of me my whole life and I appreciate them very much. The sacrifices they both have made for me couldn’t be replace by anything in the world. I thank my mother for giving me life. And I appreciate my dad for introducing me to the game of football. Without him, I don’t know what I would be doing right now.

Q: What is something unique about you that people would find interesting?

A: I’m actually really funny, it’s surprising because more adults find me for funny than more people my age. And I can take really good pictures.
