How’d you end up at your current school? What was the recruiting process like?
I ended up at Sul Ross because I just wanted to play football at a school that truly wanted me there. Sul Ross recruited me heavily and it was a no brainer. The recruitment process was heavy as I had a d2 school in Ohio wanting me to visit and other d3 schools in Texas that wanted me as well. I also had a PWO to Texas Southern University.
What gives you an advantage over other athletes at your position?
My knowledge of the game and my physicality at the position. The narrative that DBs don’t want to tackle is the flaw of most good athlete’s game.
What does being a student of a game mean to you?
Being a student of the game is being able to understand coverages and prepare in the film room as that’s where 65% of a game is won. Being able to anticipate plays that are coming during downs and situational football due to the preparation.
How does being a safety reflect itself in your personal life?
Being a safety is being the last line of defense that your team can count on you to make a play or keep the situation together. With my personal life I would say I’m the protector, for instance keeping people out of harm or controlling situations. As a safety in game, you must control the field as a middle field safety not letting anything behind you, which really correlates into my personal situations.
How would you describe your work ethic?
Ever since I started taking football seriously my freshman year in high school, I could say more work ethic was and is relentless. I have seen my body go from a fat mess to a diverse athlete and it correlated to my life focus as well. My work ethic is a never say I can’t mentality because God always has a plan for me.
What do you consider to be one of the more important things you learned from the coaching staff? I have learned that even if you are working hard, it still can’t be enough to win. Winning and losing are reflections of how you respond to situations and will determine how you approach life.
What would you consider to be your biggest accomplishment in your sports career so far?
My biggets accomplish was going to college as a athlete to be honest. I had a lot of D1 teammates in high school saying I wouldn’t be able to make it to the next level and that was pure motivation to prove them wrong from my freshman year in high school all the way to now. And I had accomplished so much from all conference honors, to breaking my school record in career tackles.
How did you hear about the National Scouting Combine?
My recruiting coordinator and assistant coach told me that I received an invite and I have been blowing up a few people for information so I can compete.
Why did you choose the National Scouting Combine?
The National scouting combine gives me an opportunity to play football one more time which is really exciting, but also gives me a few looks to go play the sport I love at a professional level.
What do you hope to show people at the combine?
I hope to show my skill and ball knowledge when competing. The streght and heart will already be instilled with me as I step through the doors to work.
What was your Major? Sports Administration (Masters)
If you could make a positive impact on all of society, what would it be and why?
I would make sure everyone has a place of shelter, because this snowstorm through Texas showed me that a lot of homeless people have died due to the convenient weather in Texas. The best thing would be opening more homeless shelters that can be funded by the government
If you had the opportunity to play another sport professionally, what sport would you choose?
I would actually run track or basketball, with imaginary 6’5 height.
Are you involved in mentoring, a charity or do you “give back” or “pay it forward” in your community? I donate clothes to the needy or homeless on my community and in my college town. I do this at least 2 to 3 times a year because I used to know how it was not to have much as a middle schooler as my family wasn’t doing well at one point in life.
