How’d you end up at your current school? What was the recruiting process like?
For me recruiting was a bit different than most, not just because of Covid occurring while I was in my junior year of high school, but I didn’t get much help in the recruiting game. I had to learn from trial and error, but I was blessed enough to know a few who had experience in being recruited at the highest level and was able to learn from their experience.
After getting noticed through my relentless sending out of film and workouts at school and training at ThrowItDeep, I was contacted by Coach Ackerman, who was my offensive coordinator at Carroll University, and he showed me the vision that he and my Head Coach, Coach Budziszewski, had for the program. And I was sold.
What gives you an advantage over other athletes at your position?
I want competition. I know most say they “like” competition, but they only like it as long as they win. Me, I like to compete, period, because I can see the light at the end of the competition. If I win, I figure out how I won and then go deeper to see how I can win even better, and if I lose, then I learn to see how I loss and what I can do to make sure it doesn’t happen again.
What does being a student of a game mean to you?
Being willing to learn and take constructive criticism no matter who is giving it to you, no matter how good you think you are. And then, applying that to the practice field and game.
How does being a (WR) reflect itself in your personal life?
Being a WR, you gotta be an athlete in some way, shape, or form. I played every single sport you could think of, including doing SEVERAL martial arts and wrestling, as well as running track since grade school. You also have to be confident in yourself, and best believe I am very confident in myself and my ability, so much so that people would confuse it every now and then for cockiness. You also got to be a spark of the offense, and I tend to find myself lighting a fire in people to motivate them to do anything that is deemed impossible to others.
How would you describe your work ethic?
Relentless, I honestly can’t leave the field, gym, or even pool(recovery workouts), without feeling like I can do even more. And it’s times where I can remember people utterly confused because I’m in the weight room after already being in practice or even being on the field in cold temps during the off season.
What do you consider to be one of the more important things you learned from the coaching staff?
People are always watching, even when you think you’re alone. Coaches have come up to me telling me they saw me working out at times where I could’ve sworn not a soul was around, regardless, I work my butt of every moment as if my coaches are standing right in front of me, because that is how I’m wired.
What would you consider to be your biggest accomplishment in your sports career so far?
Earning the respect of my teammates and coaches for the continuous hard work that I had put in while still only receiving little to no chance of the opportunity I was working for.
How did you hear about the National Scouting Combine?
Through my search for different avenues to get to the pros, I saw a twitter feed post and immediately did research on it just before I committed to doing this.
Why did you choose the National Scouting Combine?
I wanna play football, and I want to do it as long as I possibly can, and with that mindset comes the understanding that there is a chance that I might be given to play pro, even if it’s not the NFL. But at the end of the day, I am more than willing to take any opportunity that is possible. That’s how bad I want it.
What do you hope to show people at the combine?
My versatility as an athlete, my work ethic and want to be the absolute best, and that I can do all of this and have fun while still carrying myself like a professional athlete.
What was your Major?
Leadership and Management
If you could make a positive impact on all of society what would it be and why?
I would give back to my community and anywhere else that I consider my community, both financially and mentally, I want to give to those what others gave to me, love and support.
What is something unique about you that people would find interesting?
That while playing all the sports that I played, I was in band since I was in middle school (played the drums) and was apart of the choir at my church.
If you had the opportunity to play another sport professionally, what sport would you choose?
Probably Track and Field, I wouldn’t mind going to the Olympics. And if track didn’t work out, for sure wrestling.
Are you involved in mentoring, a charity or do you “give back” or “pay it forward” in your community?
I would volunteer to be apart of my mission’s ministry outings at church, whether it was handing out school supplies, or even going to downtown Chicago and handing out essential packs(snacks, gloves, hats, gift cards, travel size soap and lotion, travel size bible, etc.). I also had coached before I left for college and got to experience what it was like to not only lead a team, but to ultimately help shape them into the men they will soon become, because after I play football for however loping God allows me to, I plan on coaching immediately!
