Josh Wilson Returns as Coach for the 2026 National Scouting Combine in Naples

The National Scouting Combine continues to strengthen its coaching staff for 2026 with the return of coach Josh Wilson, who will once again work hands-on with athletes in Naples, Florida.

Wilson brings a well-rounded football background to the combine, shaped by his experiences as a college player, professional athlete, and coach. From his playing days at West Liberty to competing in the Indoor Football League, and now coaching at Waynesburg University, Wilson understands the game from every angle — a perspective that directly impacts how he evaluates and develops talent.

“Being able to put myself in the players’ shoes has helped me tremendously,” Wilson said. “Not everything shows up on paper. Yes, measurables matter, but I want to see how you carry yourself — with teammates, with coaches, on and off the field. Leadership, accountability, and how you respond in big moments are things you can’t always quantify.”

Wilson has been part of the National Scouting Combine for eight years and currently works with kickers, defensive backs, special teams, and defensive units. During the evaluation process, he places a strong emphasis on mindset and approach.

“I look for passion for the game,” Wilson explained. “The athletes who want to learn, who listen to coaching, and who show up ready to absorb everything. Instinct is huge — do you react naturally or do you hesitate? And leadership matters. Can you walk into a room full of people you don’t know and earn their trust?”

As athletes prepare for the 2026 event, Wilson makes it clear that evaluation extends far beyond drills and testing.

“From the moment you walk into the hotel, onto the field, or anywhere you’re with us, you’re being evaluated,” he said. “This is an interview from start to finish. Have fun, play football, do what you know how to do — but understand that how you conduct yourself matters every step of the way.”

Wilson’s return reinforces the National Scouting Combine’s commitment to providing athletes with experienced coaching, honest evaluation, and professional-level expectations. The 2026 National Scouting Combine will take place in Naples, Florida, bringing together elite prospects, coaches, and decision-makers from across the football landscape.
