Two-Time Super Bowl Champion Todd Washington Joins the National Scouting Combine Coaching Staff for 2026
The National Scouting Combine is proud to announce the addition of former NFL player and veteran NFL coach Todd Washington to its 2026 coaching and evaluation team. Washington—a two-time Super Bowl Champion who played for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Houston Texans, and Cleveland Browns—brings more than two decades of elite professional experience as both a player and coach to this year’s Combine at the Paradise Coast Sports Complex in Naples, Florida.
With an NFL career built on discipline, technique, and resilience, Washington’s impact has extended far beyond his playing days. His coaching résumé includes roles with:
University of San Diego – OL Coach (2007–09) & Offensive Coordinator
Hartford Colonials – OL Coach
Baltimore Ravens – Assistant Offensive Line Coach (2011–2016)
Orlando Apollos – ST Coordinator & RB Coach
DC Defenders – Tackles & Tight Ends Coach
New York Jets – Offensive Assistant
Jacksonville Jaguars – Assistant OL Coach (2021–2023)
Known for elevating offensive line play through detail-driven technique and foundational development, Washington now brings that same passion and expertise to the National Scouting Combine.
A Journey Built on Discipline, Integrity, and Real Development
Looking back on 20+ years in the NFL, Washington acknowledges the championships and accolades—but says the true story is deeper.
“On paper, you see the championships and the teams I’ve been associated with — and yes, that’s remarkable. But what makes it even more remarkable now is that I’ve done it without being tied to the so-called ‘Super Agents’ who are flooding the market with coaches. Nepotism and cronyism have made opportunities harder for coaches who look like me, especially at the positions I specialize in.
As the game has evolved, too many coaches expect players to show up already prepared. That’s not development — that’s assumption. I’ve always believed technique is the foundation. Talent may get you noticed, but technique and discipline sustain a career.”
Washington’s approach—honed through years of coaching at the highest level—aligns perfectly with the National Scouting Combine’s mission of developing complete athletes.
Why He Chose the National Scouting Combine
For Washington, joining the Combine was about purpose—and people.
“What drew me to the National Scouting Combine was its commitment to developing whole athletes. It’s not just about performance; it’s about character, leadership, and personal growth.
On a personal level, I’ve known Jimmy Kibble since our days at Virginia Tech. His vision has provided legitimate opportunities for countless athletes. With all leagues represented in some capacity this year, the players should feel energized knowing their efforts will be seen.”
The combination of opportunity, integrity, and the Naples environment made the decision easy.
Evaluating Next-Level Potential in Offensive Linemen
Washington will work closely with offensive linemen throughout Combine week—and he knows exactly what traits translate to the next level.
“Consistency in fundamentals, relentless work ethic, and mental toughness. You can tell right away when a player takes pride in their stance, footwork, and hand placement. Guys who finish every rep, communicate, study film, and stay coachable—that’s next-level potential.”
On the flip side, he’s equally aware of the common mistakes young linemen bring into evaluations:
“Poor stance, sloppy footwork, late hands, pad-level issues, and relying too heavily on strength. Many also lack full mental preparation. At the Combine, we’re breaking everything down to detail—stance, footwork, finishing reps, communicating, studying film. We’re turning gaps into strengths.”
Stepping Into the Spotlight: Head Coach of the College All-Star Game Showcase
On January 8th under the lights, Washington will also serve as one of the Head Coaches for the College All-Star Game Showcase—an opportunity that holds deep personal meaning.
“It’s an honor and a privilege. This is something I dreamed about as a kid watching my dad coach. What excites me most is seeing these athletes show up under the lights and compete with intensity. I’ll be doing the same right alongside them.”
Advice for Athletes Who Want to Stand Out in Naples
When asked how players can separate themselves, Washington doesn’t hesitate:
“Consistency, effort, and professionalism. Evaluators notice the details—stance, footwork, finish, hustle between drills, coachability. Off the field, carry yourself with confidence and respect. When you combine sharp fundamentals with strong character, you show you’re ready for the next level.”
The Impact He Hopes to Make in 2026
More than anything, Washington wants athletes to leave Naples changed for the better.
“I want athletes to sharpen their fundamentals, build confidence, and understand what it takes to carry themselves like professionals. If I can instill discipline, coachability, and resilience, then I know I’ve given them something that lasts far beyond the Combine and the All-Star Game.”
A Game-Changer for the 2026 National Scouting Combine
With Todd Washington joining the coaching staff, the 2026 National Scouting Combine gains not only a decorated NFL champion—but a leader committed to restoring real development in football. His presence raises the bar for offensive line play, for the All-Star Game Showcase, and for every athlete stepping onto the field in Naples this January.
