Robert DeBoard | Loudoun County High School | DL | 2021

Q: Tell us about your high school career and what the recruiting process has been like thus far.

A: My high school career began freshman year at Loudoun County high school where I played for my freshman team. We lost one game and many of us proved ourselves to the varsity coaches. After freshman year I continued to work out and strive for a varsity spot. Going into my sophomore year, I was a 3rd man DE but played most of the game. We went on to have a great season that year, only losing to the state champions in a close second round playoff game. I played only DE going into my junior year but as injuries occurred, I also began to play offensive line. This year I will likely focus on defense but stay ready for whatever position needs help.

Q: When did you receive your first offer and what school was it from? How many offers have you received thus far?

A: I received my first offer a few months ago from Carthage. Since then I have had another offer from Washington and Jefferson. I also talk consistently to other schools.

Q: What would you consider to be your biggest accomplishment in your sports career so far?

A: My biggest accomplishment would be basically starting my sophomore year and producing good stats versus older players far bigger than me.

Q: What do you consider to be one of the more important things you learned from the coaching staff while playing at your school?

A: One very important thing I learned is that I’m not always going to make the play but, I can put my teammates in a position that they can make the big play.

Q: What have you learned during this unique time in 2020? What did you focus on or accomplish during Quarantine?

A: During quarantine I’ve learned a lot more drills that can improve me as a player without the gear my school supplies. I’ve been focusing on my cardio and working on my speed to be one step ahead of my opponent when that ball is snapped.

Q: If you could play in college, what would you choose to major in? What are your plans if football doesn’t work out?

A: I would like to study business and marketing when I go to college but I always keep in mind that enlisting would do well for me as well.

Q: What would your current teammates say about you and your qualities?

A: I believe my teammates would say I am humbler about things than a lot of other guys. I never want to leave a guy behind, and I think that shows whether it is on the field, in the classroom, or in the weight room.

Q: What has been one of the most memorable plays of your career so far?

A: The most memorable plays in my high school career would be when the opposing team ran a sweep to my side and I shed two blockers, stripped the ball from the running back, scooped it up and took it 63 yards to the house in a close game.

Q: What has been your biggest challenge and how do you manage it?

A: My biggest challenge would be when I wasn’t doing so well mentally and really wasn’t sure if football was for me. It took me awhile but I finally realized that football was one thing that truly set me free. I had no stress when I was on the field and it is one of the few places I can truly be myself.

Q: If you could compare yourself to a collegiate or pro athlete, who would that be and why?

A: I would compare myself to Nick Bosa. Although the is a great defensive lineman no matter who he is lined up against, he is athletic enough to play in multiple positions and still succeed.

Q: What is your biggest strength and why should college coaches & scouts consider you?

A: my biggest strength is my ability to get off the ball and use unique pass rush moves that are one step ahead of the player I’m going against.

Q: Are you involved in mentoring, a charity or do you “give back”/”pay it forward” in your community?

A: Although I’m not directly involved with any groups, that doesn’t stop me from supporting local groups and communities. I often go to little league games to support the next generation of football players. When I drive past someone who is less fortunate than me, I often take out whatever cash is in my wallet and give it to them. Although it is only a little, I hope that I can help that person and make their day a little bit better.

Q: How are you preparing for the 2020 High School National Scouting Combine and what are your goals for the combine?

A: I’ve been focusing on my cardio much more than I used to and doing a lot of body work exercises. I’ve also been talking to my long time coach about different moves to practice and working on those.

Q: What would be your ultimate achievement?

A: My ultimate achievement would be to win a state championship. I’ve been so close before and will stop at nothing to get there.

Q: What do you enjoy doing when not playing football? Do you play other sports?

A: although I don’t play other sports, I love to fish in my free time. I also own a dirt bike so whenever I can take it out for a spin I won’t hesitate.

Q: Who is or has been the most influential person in your life?

A: the most influential person in my life would be my parents and my grandmothers. They rarely ever miss a game and support me no matter what path I chose.

Q: What is something unique about you that people would find interesting?

A: I believe the fact that I’m a twin is very unique and many people find it very interesting.
